In all that he does, he prospers

Today is Simchat Torah and we once again begin a blessed new reading cycle of the Bible using Daily Bread. For me personally it is now the fifth year that I read through the Bible following this plan. Five years ago I felt a need to study the Scriptures on a daily basis in a more disciplined way. Little did I know at that time that within five years thousands around the world would use this plan to study the Bible. What a blessing.

This year we will begin to post short comments on the Scripture portions on the day to encourage more people to study the Bible. We invite all of you who use Daily Bread to also post what God shows you when you read the Bible using Daily Bread. It will be exciting.

Today my comment comes from the section of the Writings. Psalm 1:1-3 reads:

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD [the Torah, His instructions and teachings for us], and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”

What awesome promises! Do you want to be fruitful in your walk with God? Do you want to prosper in all that you do? Begin to dig into the Scriptures in a serious way! Study the Bible! Pray before you read that the Holy Spirit will help you understand what you read! Memorize the Word! Meditate on it! And most important of all, be careful to obey what it says! Then you will be blessed.

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. …the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.” (Jas 1:22,25)

You will be like a fruitful tree planted by streams of water! Wow!

The following verse in Psalm 1 says:

“The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.” (Ps 1:4)

Those who are not securely founded on the disciplined study and obedience of the Scriptures, will in these end times be blown away what is popular and by every wind of doctrine. But if you prayerfully study the Scriptures you will mature and become strong.

“…so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.” (Eph 4:14)

Let’s study the Scriptures! Encourage others to do the same! May the Lord richly prosper all of you in this coming year through the reading of the Scriptures! Wash yourself daily in His Word.

“…that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life.” (Php 2:15-16)
