“How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.” (Ps 36:7)
Without the steadfast love of God, in Hebrew called chesed, no human being would be able to live and exist. Chesed is also translated as love, lovingkindness, unfailing love or mercy.
It is God’s unfailing love and mercy that the sun is rising in the morning. It is His unfailing love and mercy that we are able to breathe. As Paul expressed it: “In him we live and move and have our being.” (Ac 17:28) Everything in life is dependent on the steadfast love of God that endures forever.
Paul told the people in Lystra:
“…we bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them. …he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.” (Ac 14:15,17)
Yet, the greatest manifestation of God’s chesed, His steadfast and unfailing love and mercy, is His mighty acts of salvation through Messiah to deliver us from sin and give us an eternal heritage in His kingdom. How great is His mercy and love!
David wrote: “Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.” (v. 5) Through God’s unfailing love and mercy in the sacrifice of Yeshua for our sins, we have access to the very presence of God. “Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Ro 5:2)
David, the sweet psalmist of Israel, was a prophet and truly wrote some of the most precious words in the entire Bible. It is God’s unfailing love and mercy that has given us His righteousness in the Messiah, which “is like the mountains of God” (v. 6), which can never be shaken.
“How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light. Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart!” (v. 7-10)
Let us be strengthened today by the grace that is in Messiah Yeshua! (2 Ti 2:1) In Him is the fountain of life. Let’s drink from the river of His delights! Let’s take refuge in His presence in the shadow of His wings. How great is His unfailing love!
“’If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” (Jn 7:37-39)
